Point of care blood tests
Point of care blood tests can be carried out during your consultation, which means that you don’t have to wait for a laboratory analysis and in many cases, we give you the results on the day. These test a wide range of conditions including your cholesterol, liver function, and diabetes, in addition to your risk of a heart attack.
CT calcium score test
We can also provide you with a CT calcium score. This is a low dose CT scan of your heart. It measures the amount of calcium plaque build-up in the walls of your heart arteries. As heart disease progresses, the level of calcium in the blood vessel walls increases, and so the test can be a good indicator of whether or not you are suffering from heart disease. If the test indicates that you are at risk, we can then provide a tailored approach to reduce the risk of a heart attack.
Angiogram
During this test an X-ray dye is injected into the vein in your arm and the scan is timed to take pictures of it as it passes through your coronary arteries. This produces very detailed 2D and 3D images of the arteries and will show an accurate image of narrowing as a result of plaque. If there is no plaque visible that is great news as your risk is very low.
Echocardiogram
This is a non-invasive test that uses ultrasound to build up a picture of your heart. It will show the four chambers that make up your heart and the four valves that sit in between them. The arteries and veins carrying the blood to and from your heart are also assessed. The procedure usually takes from 30 – 60 minutes but can be carried out more quickly.
Electrocardiogram (ECG)
